Non-Alcoholic Drinks from South Africa

South African producers, led by wine from the Cape winelands. The Cape winelands work with Chenin Blanc and Pinotage more than anywhere else, and both keep the acidity and aromatic character that carry a wine without alcohol.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the Cape known for in non-alcoholic wine?

Chenin Blanc and Pinotage more than anywhere else in the world. Both keep their acidity and aromatic character when the alcohol is removed, and the Cape's dry-farmed bush vines and cool Atlantic influence give fruit that is ripe without being heavy.

How is South African wine dealcoholized?

Usually by spinning cone under vacuum at low temperature, which is chosen for still wine because it holds body and color where a bubble is not there to carry the drink. The wine is fermented slowly and rested on lees first.

What is Pinotage?

A grape created in South Africa by crossing Pinot Noir with Cinsault, grown almost nowhere else. It gives a dark, smoky red with real structure, which is a useful starting point for a wine that has to keep its shape without alcohol.
