What does Singapore make in this category?
Drinks built from tropical botanicals — pandan, lemongrass, citrus peel and spice — made for mixing. The city has one of the most developed cocktail cultures in Asia, and what is produced there is shaped by bartenders rather than by winemakers.
What is pandan?
A tropical leaf used across Southeast Asia, grassy and faintly coconut-like, closer to vanilla than to anything herbal. It gives a drink a rounded, aromatic body that is hard to get any other way once alcohol is out of the picture.
Are Singaporean botanical drinks meant to be mixed?
Yes, almost entirely. They are built to hold their shape against ice, citrus and a mixer, and several are designed around specific cocktails rather than around a spirit category.
