Is this the same as Vino Nobile di Montepulciano?
They are different wines with confusingly similar names. Montepulciano d'Abruzzo is made from the Montepulciano grape in Abruzzo. Vino Nobile di Montepulciano is made from Sangiovese in a Tuscan town called Montepulciano. This shelf is the first.
What does Montepulciano d'Abruzzo taste like?
Black cherry and a gentle herbal edge over soft tannin, with deep color and an easy finish. It is a straightforward, food-friendly red rather than a demanding one, which makes it a comfortable place to start.
What should I eat with it?
Tomato-based dishes above all, where its acidity and the sauce meet on equal terms. Pizza, baked pasta, grilled sausage. It is a weeknight red and suits being treated as one.
