Non-Alcoholic Grenache

Grenache gives generous strawberry and raspberry fruit over low tannin, and ripens to more natural sugar than almost any other red. It is the backbone of Châteauneuf-du-Pape and of much southern French and Spanish rosé.

Frequently Asked Questions
What makes Grenache so fruit-forward?

Ripeness. Grenache reaches high sugar levels in warm places, and that translates into abundant red fruit and a rounded, easy feel. It is the most generous red here and the least demanding — good on its own, on a warm evening, lightly chilled.

Is Grenache a good red without alcohol?

One of the more forgiving, because its appeal is generous red fruit over low tannin rather than structure. The risk runs the other way: without alcohol the fruit can read simple, so the better bottles come from old vines that crop lightly.

Should Grenache be chilled?

Lightly, yes. Half an hour in the refrigerator tightens the strawberry fruit and gives it some edge, which matters more once there is no alcohol adding grip. Serve it around 55°F.
