Non-Alcoholic Gewürztraminer

Unmistakably perfumed — lychee, rose and ginger — with a broad, oily texture. It is the most aromatic white in common cultivation and the least likely to be mistaken for anything else.

Frequently Asked Questions
Why does Gewürztraminer smell sweet when it is often dry?

Because aroma and sugar are separate. The lychee and rose come from terpenes, the same family of compounds found in flowers and citrus peel, and the nose reads them as sweetness. Many Gewürztraminers are fully dry — pour one with spiced food and the aromatics do remarkable work.

Does Gewurztraminer keep its perfume without alcohol?

Better than almost any white. Its lychee and rose come from terpenes, which are aromatic compounds captured and returned during a low-temperature process. What it loses is the broad, oily texture, which was partly alcohol.

What food goes with Gewurztraminer?

Spice, and the sort that defeats most wine. Southeast Asian dishes, ginger, and washed-rind cheese all meet its aromatics rather than fighting them. It is one of the few whites that improves next to heat.
