Spain's most widely planted white grape, and for years the most planted grape of any color anywhere. Clean, citrus-driven and drought-tolerant, it thrives in central Spain's dry heat.

Frequently Asked Questions
Why is such a widely planted grape not better known?

Because most of it went into blends and brandy rather than under its own name. Modern handling — early picking, cool fermentation — has shown what it can do on its own: bright, lemony and refreshing, and very good value.

Is Airen worth drinking on its own?

On its own it is light, clean and citrus-driven, which is exactly what suits being made without alcohol. It was overlooked for so long because volume rather than quality decided how it was handled. Picked early and fermented cool, it gives a fresh, uncomplicated white.

How should Airen be served?

Very cold, in a standard white glass, and drunk young. It is not a wine that gains anything from sitting, and the freshness is the whole proposition. It suits a warm afternoon better than a long dinner.
