Why would a wine not be vegan?

Because of how it was clarified rather than what went into it. Conventional winemaking often removes haze using gelatin, isinglass from fish, egg white or casein from milk, and traces can remain in the finished wine. Bottles listed here avoid them.

How is a vegan wine clarified instead?

With mineral or plant-based agents such as bentonite clay or pea protein, or by settling and filtration with time rather than additives.

Are non-alcoholic beers and spirits usually vegan?

More often than wine is, because the clarification methods that cause the problem are mostly a winemaking practice. Beer is the exception worth checking, since isinglass is still used by some traditional brewers. Where a producer states it, the certification is recorded here.
