Frequently Asked Questions
What does organic certification actually cover?

The growing — no synthetic pesticides or fertilizers — and limits on what may be added afterwards, including sulfites. Standards differ: EU organic, USDA Organic and Demeter for biodynamic each set their own thresholds, and the label says which applies.

Is organic the same as sulfite-free?

No. Organic certification limits added sulfites rather than banning them, and sulfites also occur naturally in fermentation. A bottle that is genuinely sulfite-free says so separately.

Can a dealcoholized wine still be certified organic?

Yes. Certification covers how the fruit was grown and what may be added, and removing alcohol is a physical process rather than an additive one. The wine has to have been made from certified fruit to begin with, and the certifying body is named on the bottle.
