More about Mahala Botanical
Who they are
Mahala Botanical is made in Cape Town at an all-female distillery. The name is the Zulu word for free, which is the whole of the brand's argument in one word.
Nine hand-sourced botanicals are infused under vacuum on custom-built stills and triple-distilled. Working under vacuum draws the aromatics out at low temperature rather than boiling them off, which is what leaves the spirit clear and gives it body.
Two bottles came of it. Classic is the citrus-led, herbaceous one, with South African buchu underneath. Amber takes the same base and layers oak, smoke and chili into it.

Free, in Zulu.
What is buchu?
A South African botanical, herbaceous and slightly minty. It is the note that separates Mahala from a London dry profile.
