Non-Alcoholic Agave Margarita

Lime, agave and a good non-alcoholic tequila — the margarita stripped back to what actually matters.

Rocks glass

Strip a margarita to its bones and you get lime, agave and a base with something to say. This is that drink, with a few dashes of orange bitters to lift the whole thing. It takes about a minute, and once you've made one you'll stop measuring.

Ingredients

Method

  1. Add non-alcoholic tequila, lime juice, agave nectar, bitters, and a small pinch of salt to a shaker with ice.
  2. Shake for 6–8 seconds until chilled.
  3. Strain into a rocks glass filled with fresh ice.
  4. Garnish with a lime wedge or salted rim.

Make It Yours

Salt or no salt

Rim half the glass. You get both drinks, and you'll learn which one you actually prefer.

Smokier

Swap a third of the base for non-alcoholic mezcal. A little goes a long way, in the best sense.

Longer

Top with soda and serve in a highball. Same drink, more afternoon.

How to Serve & Pair

Serve this Agave Margarita well chilled over ice in a rocks glass for a crisp, refreshing experience. This alcohol-free margarita pairs perfectly with:

  • tacos and Mexican cuisine
  • grilled shrimp or fish
  • guacamole and chips
  • citrus salads
  • spicy appetizers

It’s ideal for summer parties, taco nights, happy hour, or alcohol-free cocktail gatherings.

Common Questions

Why orange bitters and not just more lime?

Lime brings acidity, bitters bring aroma. A few dashes make the drink smell like a margarita before you've tasted it, which is most of the pleasure.

Can I use bottled lime juice?

You can, but fresh is the single biggest upgrade here — bottled loses its lift within a day of opening.

Is the salt necessary?

Not necessary, but it does change the drink. Salt suppresses bitterness and lifts sweetness, so a rimmed glass tastes rounder.

Can I make a batch?

Mix the base, lime and agave ahead and keep it cold. Shake each glass with fresh ice so the dilution happens where it should.
