About Margarita

Lyre's Margarita in six 250 mL cans, a margarita mixed and canned ready to drink. Tart lime over agave, with a salted edge that keeps it from going sweet.

Where the bottles are ingredients, these are the finished drink — nothing to measure, nothing to mix. Once opened, a can is meant to be drunk straight away.

Serve cold, from the can or over ice. Contains no alcohol.

About Lyre's Spirit Co

Named after the Australian lyrebird, the world's greatest mimic — which is the whole idea.

Mark Livings and Carl Hartmann founded Lyre's in Australia in 2019, setting out to build a range that echoed the classic spirits rather than inventing new flavors.

The name is the method. The lyrebird imitates whatever it hears — other birds, a camera shutter, a chainsaw — and the range is built the same way, each bottle answering a spirit a bartender already knows how to use. That is why the labels say Gin Alternative and Dark Rum Alternative rather than inventing a word for what is in them.

The bottles carry the Social Animals, a cast of characters drawn one to a liquid. The range now runs from the spirits through a sparkling Classico to canned cocktails, and the company sells in more than sixty countries.

New to Ready-to-Drink Cocktails?

The mixing is already done, which is what you are paying for — convenience, and a balance somebody else already settled. Sugar is the variable that matters, since it is the easiest way to make a canned drink taste finished, and the per-serving figure is on this page. They also take well to a splash of something else if you want more edge.

Common questions
Does it taste like a real margarita?
It goes after the same shape — tart lime over agave, with a salted edge that keeps it from going sweet. What it cannot give you is the bite of tequila.
Do I need salt and lime?
The salt is already in the can. A salted rim and a wedge of lime still improve it if you are pouring rather than drinking from the can.
How much sugar is in a can?
Eight grams, at 45 calories. It is the driest of the Lyre's cans alongside the Gin and Tonic.
