About Bright

Optimist Bright in 500 mL, a distilled botanical spirit made with no alcohol at any stage.

Citrus, sherbet and what Optimist call salty sunshine — lemon, jasmine, green mandarin and lavender over turmeric, fennel and myrrh. It drinks like a lemony vodka and is built to be mixed rather than sipped. No sugar, no carbohydrate, no calories.

About Optimist Botanicals

Everything from this producer

A husband-and-wife brand from Los Angeles, distilling botanicals with no alcohol involved at any stage.

Tommy and Lisa Farr Johnstone moved to Los Angeles and found their habits changing — farmers markets and hiking where bars used to be. What they could not find was anything worth ordering when they went out, so in January 2020 they started making it.

They spent eighteen months with a master distiller in downtown LA developing three blends, each drawn from a different part of the city and its edges: the coastline, the canyons, the desert. Ten to fifteen botanicals go into each, pulled apart by steam, vacuum and CO2 extraction rather than by soaking in spirit.

Optimist is a certified B Corp, and the founders put their weight behind a Venice non-profit working with young people experiencing homelessness.

Common questions

What does it stand in for?
A citrusy vodka, in Optimist's own words. It is made to be mixed the way a premium spirit is, not sipped neat.
Is there any sugar in it?
None. No sugar, no carbohydrate and no calories — the flavor is all distillate and extract.
How many drinks does a bottle make?
About ten, at the pour Optimist recommend — one part spirit to three parts soda or tonic.
