About Blanc de Blancs

Six bottles of the Blanc de Blancs, which is the format for a household that pours it rather than saves it.

It is also the case to have in before a run of occasions — a holiday stretch, a dry month, a summer of people coming over.

A Swedish house making wine in France, aging it, and taking the alcohol out at the end.

Oddbird was founded in Sweden in 2013 by Moa Gürbüzer, who had spent two decades as a family therapist working with families affected by alcohol. She wanted the question would you like your wine with or without alcohol? to become as ordinary as asking whether someone takes milk in their coffee.

The wines are made in France, in the Languedoc-Roussillon. What separates them is the order of operations: the wine is fermented and aged for up to twelve months as wine, and only then is the alcohol drawn off by vacuum distillation. Nothing is bought in already finished and stripped afterward.

Five drinks reach us. A still white built from five aromatic grapes, a southern red from the Grenache, Mourvèdre and Syrah trio, a sparkling Blanc de Blancs, a sparkling rosé, and a skin-contact orange that is sparkling as well — which is rare in any wine, with alcohol or without.

Others worth knowing

Common questions

How many glasses is a case?
Chardonnay and Colombard, both grown in the Languedoc-Roussillon.
Does it keep once opened?
This is the drier and more citrus-led of the two. The rosé carries Syrah and reads softer.

The Dry Pour

What is in these drinks, how they are made, and how to choose.

Where to start if you have never bought a non-alcoholic bottle, and what the numbers on the label mean.
Wine
Sparkling and still, how the alcohol comes out, and what to open with dinner.
Zero proof cocktail recipes
What to make with what you bought, from a bottle on the shelf to something in a glass.
Spirits, Beer & Brands
Beer, botanical spirits, bitters and aperitifs, and the makers worth knowing behind them.
Health & Functional
What is actually in the glass — ingredients, adaptogens and kava, pregnancy and nursing.
Not Drinking
