A Carlsbad company started by an entrepreneur who wanted the cocktail and not the rest of it.
Chris Boyd spent close to a decade at a pharmaceutical company, then started a competitive events business and a consultancy, before founding Monday in 2019. The company is run out of Carlsbad, in San Diego County.
He did not start it alone. Accounts of the founding group vary between two people and six; Ben Acott and Marcelo Kertesz are named consistently among them. Boyd later stepped back from the chief executive role and stayed on as chairman.
The Gin came first, in 2019. The Whiskey followed about a year later, and the Mezcal after that.
