About Duo Set

Both Melati tonics in one box, the Classic and the Fresh, 500 mL each.

The Classic is the darker of the two: bittersweet and rich, with gentian, wormwood and quassia doing the bittering and cacao, carob and pomegranate molasses sitting underneath them. The Fresh is built on watermelon, guava and lime, with elderflower and sencha tea through the middle and pasilla chilli supplying a low heat at the back. Both are made in Singapore in small batches, cold-extracted rather than boiled, and neither carries added sugar.

Pour the Classic where you would a red vermouth, and the Fresh long over ice with soda. Shake both gently first; the sediment belongs there. Contains no alcohol.

About Melati Drinks

Singapore botanical tonics, cold-extracted from Southeast Asian recipes that Lorin Winata traced back to her family's farmland in Bali.

Lorin Winata was working in venture capital in Singapore, in a job built around client dinners and evening events, and kept finding that the non-alcoholic end of a drinks list came down to water or something very sweet.

What she did about it started at her family's ancestral farmland in Jatiluwih, in Bali, where tonic recipes had been kept on palm leaves. She spent roughly two years on the formulation with a food scientist and an Ayurvedic specialist, working down from a shortlist of more than seventy ingredients traditionally used in Asian tonics to the ones that ended up in the bottle.

Melati is the Indonesian name for white jasmine. The blends are cold-extracted botanical by botanical over several weeks rather than boiled together, then hand-blended in Singapore in small batches.

New to Aperitif / Digestif?

Bitterness comes from botanicals — gentian, cinchona bark, citrus peel — and never needed alcohol to work, which is why this category translates directly. What varies is how much sugar balances it, and that figure is here.

Common questions
Which of the two should I open first?
Go by what you usually drink. The Classic suits people who reach for red wine, amaro or darker spirits. The Fresh suits white wine, green tea and spritz drinkers.
How different are the two bottles?
Genuinely different, not two shades of one drink. The Classic is bittersweet and heavy on red fruit, raw cacao and warm spice. The Fresh is tropical and mineral, built on watermelon, guava and lime.
What do I mix them with?
The Classic takes tonic and orange peel, or a Negroni-style build. The Fresh goes long over ice with soda and lime. Both want shaking gently first.
