About Classic

Mahala Botanical Classic in 750 mL, a gin-style alcohol-free spirit from Cape Town. Mahala means free in Zulu.

Nine hand-sourced botanicals are infused under vacuum on custom-built stills and triple-distilled, which draws the aromatics out gently and leaves the spirit clear and with some body to it. It is made by an all-female distillery.

Clove and cardamom lead, then citrus and pepper, with South African buchu underneath. Built for long serves and classic gin builds.

About Mahala Botanical

A Cape Town distillery, run by women, whose name means free in Zulu.

Mahala Botanical is made in Cape Town at an all-female distillery. The name is the Zulu word for free, which is the whole of the brand's argument in one word.

Nine hand-sourced botanicals are infused under vacuum on custom-built stills and triple-distilled. Working under vacuum draws the aromatics out at low temperature rather than boiling them off, which is what leaves the spirit clear and gives it body.

Two bottles came of it. Classic is the citrus-led, herbaceous one, with South African buchu underneath. Amber takes the same base and layers oak, smoke and chili into it.

New to Gin?

Juniper is the requirement; everything else is the maker's argument. The ingredient list is where you see it, and a longer botanical bill usually means more to taste once it is long and cold.
