About Espresso Martini Set

An espresso martini is a balancing act between three things: real coffee, a sweet coffee liqueur, and a clean spirit to carry them. Most attempts at a non-alcoholic version drop the third and end up tasting like cold coffee. This set keeps all three parts.

Lyre's Espresso Martini Set — two 700 mL bottles: the Coffee Liqueur Alternative and White Cane Spirit.

Coffee Liqueur Alternative, previously Coffee Originale, is roasted coffee and caramel — rich and lightly sweet. White Cane Spirit is the lift: clean sugar cane with a light vanilla sweetness and a little peppery dryness at the end.

How to build it. Shake both hard with a fresh shot of espresso and plenty of ice, then strain into a chilled coupe. The crema comes from shaking hard and from the espresso being fresh — a cooled shot will not foam.

Without the espresso the same two bottles make a White Russian over ice with milk, or a long coffee and soda. Refrigerate after opening and drink within twelve weeks.

About Lyre's Spirit Co

Named after the Australian lyrebird, the world's greatest mimic — which is the whole idea.

Mark Livings and Carl Hartmann founded Lyre's in Australia in 2019, setting out to build a range that echoed the classic spirits rather than inventing new flavors.

The name is the method. The lyrebird imitates whatever it hears — other birds, a camera shutter, a chainsaw — and the range is built the same way, each bottle answering a spirit a bartender already knows how to use. That is why the labels say Gin Alternative and Dark Rum Alternative rather than inventing a word for what is in them.

The bottles carry the Social Animals, a cast of characters drawn one to a liquid. The range now runs from the spirits through a sparkling Classico to canned cocktails, and the company sells in more than sixty countries.

Common questions
Do I still need espresso?
Yes, and it should be fresh. The crema comes from shaking hot espresso hard with ice — a cooled shot will not foam, which is the usual reason a home version comes out flat.
Why two bottles rather than one?
The coffee liqueur brings roast and sweetness; the White Cane Spirit brings the clean lift a vodka or rum would. Drop the second and it tastes like cold sweet coffee.
What is the ratio?
Roughly one part coffee liqueur to one part White Cane to one shot of espresso, shaken hard and strained into a chilled coupe.
Can I make something else with them?
A White Russian over ice with milk, or a long coffee and soda. Neither needs espresso.
