About Premium Tempranillo

Tempranillo grown on the La Mancha plateau in central Spain. The wine is fermented and matured for twelve months, and the alcohol is then removed by vacuum distillation under reduced pressure, at temperatures low enough that the aromatics are not driven off with it.

Garnet in the glass. Ripe black cherry, red currant and plum on the nose, with dried herbs and leather behind them. The palate is smooth and fruity with a note of cooked red fruit, light tannins and moderate acidity. Pour it with lamb chops, chorizo, Manchego or beef empanadas.

Halal certified and gluten-free. Screw cap. Contains sulfites. Refrigerate after opening and finish within three days.

About Lussory Premium

Everything from this producer

A Galician brand making Spanish wine from La Mancha fruit, matured a full year before the alcohol comes out.

Lussory is made in Spain, and the back label carries Dismark Products of Santiago de Compostela — the far northwest, where the Atlantic weather comes in. The fruit is from somewhere else entirely. It comes off La Mancha, the wide, high plateau south of Madrid, and both ranges are built from it: Airen and Tempranillo, Merlot and Chardonnay, all grown a long way from the corner of Spain the brand comes from.

The wine is made conventionally and matured for twelve months before anything is removed. The alcohol then comes off by vacuum distillation, under reduced pressure and at temperatures low enough that the aromatics are not driven off with it. Taking it out at the end rather than never letting it in is what leaves the reds their grip and the whites their fruit.

Two ranges sit under the name. The Premium bottles run through Merlot, Tempranillo, Airen and Chardonnay to a Rosé, a sparkling Brut, and the 24K Gold. The Organic range is the smaller of the two: a Merlot, a Chardonnay and a Brut of its own.

Common questions

Is Lussory Premium Tempranillo dealcoholized or never alcoholized?
Dealcoholized. The wine is fermented and matured for twelve months first, then the alcohol is removed by vacuum distillation under reduced pressure, at a temperature low enough that the aromatics are not driven off with it. That order is why there is structure left to taste.
Merlot or Tempranillo — which should I pick?
The Tempranillo is the food wine of the two. Both sit at 15 calories and 3.8 g of sugar per 100 mL, so the difference is character: the Tempranillo brings black cherry, plum and dried herbs with light tannin and lively acidity, while the Merlot is rounder, on cocoa and pomegranate. Open the Tempranillo with lamb, chorizo or anything charred.
Will it taste like red wine or like grape juice?
Closer to wine. Tempranillo is Spain's signature red and this is fermented as one before the alcohol is removed, so the acidity and light tannin survive the process. Expect a lighter body than a Rioja and a shorter finish.
How long does Lussory Premium Tempranillo keep once opened?
Three days, refrigerated. That is shorter than an opened bottle of wine with alcohol in it, because the alcohol was doing part of the preserving. Re-cork it and put it in the fridge, including the reds.
