About Le Petit Étoilé Cabernet Sauvignon

Cabernet Sauvignon is the red in Le Petit Étoilé, and the darker of the two bottles the range makes from that grape — the other being its rosé.

It is built by a warm maceration before any fermentation could start, which is how the color and the tannin come out of the skins without the alcohol coming with them. The range takes no sulfites and no preservatives.

Serve it a little below room temperature, with something roasted in front of it.

About Pierre Chavin

The Béziers house behind nine alcohol-free ranges, sold in more than sixty countries.

Maison Chavin works out of Béziers, in the Languedoc, and makes alcohol-free wine at a scale almost nobody else does — nine separate ranges rather than one, sold in more than sixty countries.

The division that matters to anyone buying runs underneath the names. Some ranges are made as wine and have the alcohol taken back out at the end. Others are never fermented at all, built instead from grape juice, infusions of oak and grape seed, and long maceration, so there is no alcohol to remove. Pierre Zéro, the flagship and the oldest of them, is the first kind. ÔPIA and Le Petit Étoilé are the second.

That split is also where the sulfites fall. Le Petit Étoilé is made without preservatives or sulfites and was built for French bistros; the Pierre Zéro bottles declare sulfites on the label. Two answers to two different questions, from one house.

The grapes are the French standards — Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Muscat, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot — and the bottles come full-size and in smaller formats for one.

New to Non Alcoholic Red Wines?

Both routes exist in this category: some reds are fermented as wine and then dealcoholized, others never fermented at all. The Process line on this page says which. Origin and grape still shape the wine the way they always did — Cabernet Sauvignon and Tempranillo keep their grip, Merlot and Garnacha land softer — and the alcohol figure is worth reading, since 0.0% and under 0.5% are not the same thing.

Common questions
Is it the same grape as the Étoilé rosé?
Yes. The range makes both a red and a rosé from Cabernet Sauvignon.
How should it be served?
A little below room temperature. A red with no alcohol in it shows better cool than warm.
