About Virgin Pinot

The Virgin Pinot is the lighter of the house's two reds, aimed at the fruit and freshness a Pinot Noir carries rather than at weight. Nothing here is fermented, so there is no alcohol to take out.

Serve it cool, nearer a white's temperature than a room's. A red without alcohol shows better that way.

About Le Petit Beret

A Languedoc house whose drinks are never fermented, so there is no alcohol to take out.

Le Petit Béret works among the vineyards of the Hérault, in the Languedoc. What it makes is not dealcoholized wine, and that distinction is the whole of the idea.

The house holds a patent on a method in which no alcohol is produced at all. Instead of fermenting and then stripping, the drink is built from infusions and natural extraction, worked out with oenologists and extraction specialists. It takes fewer steps than dealcoholization and less energy, and nothing has to be undone at the end.

The range runs wider than wine. White, red and rosé profiles, sparkling bottles, spirits and beers — all of them arrived at the same way.

New to Non-Alcoholic Red Wines?

Both routes exist in this category: some reds are fermented as wine and then dealcoholized, others never fermented at all. The Process line on this page says which. Origin and grape still shape the wine the way they always did — Cabernet Sauvignon and Tempranillo keep their grip, Merlot and Garnacha land softer — and the alcohol figure is worth reading, since 0.0% and under 0.5% are not the same thing.

Common questions
How is it different from the Cabernet Sauvignon?
The Pinot is the lighter of the two, with more fruit and less grip. The Cabernet is the one for bigger food.
What temperature suits it?
Cool. Nearer a white's serving temperature than room temperature.
