About Sparkling Brut

Six 750 mL bottles of Giesen 0% Sparkling Brut. Lemon, grapefruit and pear on the nose, then citrus and stone fruit lifted by the bubbles, finishing crisp and dry.

Giesen make the wine at full strength first, from Marlborough fruit, then take the alcohol out with a spinning cone — the aroma is drawn off at low temperature, the alcohol removed, and the aroma put back. It is why the varietal character survives the process. The panel prints 50 calories and 7 g of sugar per 8 fl oz serving, of which 6 g is added.

Giesen state the wine is produced with a milk product and that traces may remain. If dairy is an issue for you, that is the line to read before buying.

Serve chilled. Refrigerate after opening.

About Giesen 0%

A family winery in New Zealand, founded by three brothers from Germany and known above all for Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc.

Theo, Alex and Marcel Giesen left Germany for New Zealand in the early 1980s and planted their first vines in Canterbury in 1981. Four decades on, the winery they built is one of the country's larger family-owned producers, with its home in Marlborough and fruit drawn from Waipara and Hawke's Bay as well.

Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc is what the family became known for, and it stayed the reference point for everything that followed. The three brothers still run the business between them.

The 0% range arrived in 2020 and sits alongside the estate wines rather than apart from them, with a winemaking team of its own.

New to Non-Alcoholic Sparkling Wines?

Sweetness is the main variable — it is the easiest way to give an alcohol-free sparkling some body, and it swings widely. The sugar per pour is on every product page here. Grape tells you the rest: Chardonnay runs taut and citrus-driven, Muscat and Gewürztraminer floral.

Common questions
How dry is the Sparkling Brut?
Dry. Citrus and stone fruit carry it rather than sugar.
Where does the fruit come from?
Waipara, in the South Island of New Zealand — parcels picked for lemon and grapefruit notes alongside pear and stonefruit blossom.
How should I serve and store it?
Yes. A little grape juice is blended back in after dealcoholization, and it shows in the added sugars on the panel.
Does it contain allergens?
It contains sulfites, which are declared on the label.
