About Alkoholfrei

The Bavarian wheat beer in a half-litre can, brewed to the purity law from wheat malt, barley malt, hops and yeast and nothing else. Hazy and golden, with the clove and honey a Weissbier is judged on.

The top fermentation runs to maturity before the alcohol comes out, rather than being stopped short, which is why it reads as a wheat beer and not as a malt drink.

Tangy, fresh and full-bodied. Serve it cold in a tall glass, with salads, light dishes or anything grilled.

Sold as a pack of six 500 mL cans.

About Erdinger

Bavarian wheat beer from a private brewery in Erding, brewing since 1886.

A wheat beer brewery was first recorded in Erding, in old Bavaria northeast of Munich, in 1886. It was called the Weisse Brauhaus and it supplied the town and not much further.

It changed hands several times before Franz Brombach, by then the manager, bought it in 1935 and gave it the name it still carries. His son Werner joined in 1965 with the idea that a Bavarian wheat beer could be a national brand rather than a local one, took the brewery over in 1975, and was proved right.

It remains privately held and it brews essentially one thing. Erdinger does not license production: every bottle and can comes from Erding, and goes out to more than a hundred countries from there. The wheat beer is still matured in the bottle, which takes weeks rather than days.

New to Non-Alcoholic Beer?

Two routes, and they taste different: brewed at full strength then dealcoholized, or fermented so that little alcohol ever forms. Process on this page says which. Removal can thin the hop aroma; restricted fermentation can leave a malty sweetness.
