About Gin Alternative

A case of Lyre's Gin Alternative, 700 mL a bottle. It was previously sold as Dry London. Firm juniper and citrus, earthy through the mid-palate, with pepperberry adding warmth to a generous dry finish.

Rich scents of orange blossom, lime, jasmine, juniper and mint open it. Lyre's build their range to echo spirits a bartender already knows, so this pours one to one where the gin would — classic specs work without rebalancing.

A case suits a household that mixes the same drink often, or a bar, a wedding or an office fridge. Each bottle carries the same liquid as the single.

With premium tonic over ice, a slice of pink grapefruit and rosemary. It also stirs into a Negroni alongside the Vermouth Alternative and Italian Orange. Once open, refrigerate and drink within twelve weeks — worth planning for, since a bottle holds twenty-three measures. Contains no alcohol.

About Lyre's Spirit Co
Everything from this producer

Named after the Australian lyrebird, the world's greatest mimic — which is the whole idea.

Mark Livings and Carl Hartmann founded Lyre's in Australia in 2019, setting out to build a range that echoed the classic spirits rather than inventing new flavors.

The name is the method. The lyrebird imitates whatever it hears — other birds, a camera shutter, a chainsaw — and the range is built the same way, each bottle answering a spirit a bartender already knows how to use. That is why the labels say Gin Alternative and Dark Rum Alternative rather than inventing a word for what is in them.

The bottles carry the Social Animals, a cast of characters drawn one to a liquid. The range now runs from the spirits through a sparkling Classico to canned cocktails, and the company sells in more than sixty countries.

Is this the same as Lyre's Dry London?
Yes. Lyre's renamed it Gin Alternative; the liquid is unchanged. Older bottles and older listings still say Dry London.
How long does it keep once opened?
Twelve weeks, refrigerated, and Lyre's ask you not to store it with a pourer. A 700 mL bottle holds twenty-three 30 mL measures.
How do I mix it?
One to one where the spirit would have gone. With tonic over ice and a wedge of lime.

    Since giving up alcohol (for no specific reason) two and half years ago, the one thing I've really missed is a gin and tonic. I've tried various brands and not hadfound anything I like. I decided to try Lyre's Dry London based on the description on the beclink website and, I'll be honest, the label and look of the bottle! When I first opened it and sniffed the scent, I wasn't overly optimistic. When I sipped a taste, I was even less optimistic…it didn't taste like gin. BUT something miraculous happened when I added ice, tonic, and a slice of lemon. The first couple of sips were definitely pleasant but the real surprise was the aftertaste…it took me right back to the aftertaste of a real gin and tonic. I haven't tried it in any other mixes/cocktails because all I care about is a gin and tonic. I finished the first bottle and ordered a couple more. It's now my 'treat' drink when friends come over to socialize on a long hot summer's evening. Thanks beclink and thanks Lyre.
