The German house that patented taking the alcohol out of wine, in 1907.
Carl Jung is the oldest name in this category by a long way. In 1907 Dr. Carl Jung worked out a way to remove the alcohol from finished wine and patented it, in the family wine cellar. Everything else on the shelf came later — most of it a century later.
The house has worked the same question ever since, from the Rheingau, and now runs it at modern scale. The wines are made conventionally first and the alcohol drawn off afterwards, which is why they read as wine rather than as grape juice.
The range ran through a Merlot, a Chardonnay and a Riesling, each made from the named grape.
