About Chardonnay

Carl Jung Chardonnay in 750 mL, an alcohol-removed white from Germany made with Chardonnay grapes. Pale gold, and bright.

Carl Jung patented its de-alcoholization process in 1907, in the family wine cellar, and has refined it for more than a century since.

Green apple and pear with a touch of tropical fruit, over a background of vanilla and oak. Serve it cold with appetizers, salads or fish.

750 mL.

The German house that patented taking the alcohol out of wine, in 1907.

Carl Jung is the oldest name in this category by a long way. In 1907 Dr. Carl Jung worked out a way to remove the alcohol from finished wine and patented it, in the family wine cellar. Everything else on the shelf came later — most of it a century later.

The house has worked the same question ever since, from the Rheingau, and now runs it at modern scale. The wines are made conventionally first and the alcohol drawn off afterwards, which is why they read as wine rather than as grape juice.

The range ran through a Merlot, a Chardonnay and a Riesling, each made from the named grape.

Others worth knowing

Common questions

Is it oaked?
There is a backdrop of vanilla and oak behind the fruit, which is what separates it from the Riesling in the same range.
What does it go with?
Appetizers, salads and fish.
How cold should it be?
Properly cold, in a white wine glass. The apple and pear close up if it warms.
