About Butter Zero
Everything from this producer

The Napa house behind Butter Chardonnay, taking the alcohol out of the wines it already makes.

John and Michele Truchard are second-generation Napa Valley vintners and the J and M in JaM Cellars. Butter Chardonnay began there with a thousand cases and became the wine most Americans meet first in that aisle.

ButterZero arrived in March 2026 and is made the same way round: the wine is made in California first, then the alcohol comes out. Four varietals — Sparkling Rosé, Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay and Pinot Noir — all in 750 mL bottles.

The house line has always been that a wine has to taste good before anything else about it matters, and the same winemaking team took several years over this one before putting the Butter name on it.

New to Non Alcoholic Red Wines?

Both routes exist in this category: some reds are fermented as wine and then dealcoholized, others never fermented at all. The Process line on this page says which. Origin and grape still shape the wine the way they always did — Cabernet Sauvignon and Tempranillo keep their grip, Merlot and Garnacha land softer — and the alcohol figure is worth reading, since 0.0% and under 0.5% are not the same thing.

Is it the same wine as Butter Pinot Noir?
Not the same bottle. It is made with Butter wines from California and then has the alcohol taken out, so the house style carries over.
Is it sweet?
Fruit-forward rather than sweet — red cherry, strawberry and cranberry over a creamy texture.
How light is it?
Light. Under 65 calories a glass, and softer in body than a full-strength Pinot Noir.
